Well, you might not be aware but this is solved, YouTube now offers higher quality versions of videos. All you have to do to watch videos in 720p resolution is implement a URL hack – adding &fmt=22 at the end of the url, this enables a 720p resolution. Note however, for this to work, the original video must have been uploaded in 720p or higher resolution.

Go on, compare the original, higher quality and 720p resolution, you should see a real difference in picture quality.
Now all we want is those nice video uploaders to upload YouTube videos at 720p or higher resolution.
